Fertility

Fertility Maybe you’ve known you have endometriosis for a while but now you want to get pregnant?  Maybe you’ve never heard about endometriosis but your doctor suggested it may be why you are having trouble getting pregnant? While endometriosis can sometimes make it harder to get pregnant there are many women who successfully conceive naturally or with the help of fertility treatments even with varying degrees of endometriosis.  My goal is to help provide physical and emotional support while you are trying to conceive. When we meet we’ll work out a treatment plan.  When I work with women with fertility issues and endometriosis, it’s not very different from working with women with other fertility issues. I am helping you to balance your body and prepare for pregnancy. As a side benefit, the treatment is very effective in reducing endometriosis related symptoms.  I have experience working with women and couples from unexplained fertility up to complex infertility cases.  Physical support for improving your fertility:  Sobada Abdominal Massage, a relaxing and therapeutic massage that strengthens the uterus and improves blood flow to the organs in your pelvis including your ovaries and uterus. Sobada is often nicknamed womb massage or uterine massage because of it’s profound impact on your womb.  The treatment helps to improve your overall fertility and can improve egg quality and your uterine lining. In addition, the treatment helps relax tension in your abdomen, release adhesions and return organs (including your uterus) to their optimum position.  I incorporate hand and foot reflexology to help you truly relax and return to a state of balance. Foot reflexology is very effective in improving your fertility and improving your hormone levels. I have special training in treating women (and men!) with reflexology during IVF and other fertility treatments.  Emotional support for while you are trying to conceive: I help my clients reduce their stress, anxiety and fears and concerns around fertility treatments and/or trying to conceive in general using Bach Flowers, visualisation and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Tapping.  I believe that when you feel calm, optimistic and able to cope with the unpredictable schedule of fertility treatments your chances of success are higher and you can deal with an unsuccessful cycle without falling apart.  Using different techniques, we can often uncover unconscious blocks that may have been preventing you from getting pregnant, release them and help you move closer to holding your precious baby.  I’m a holistic therapist and I am here to help you!   I love helping women to overcome their fertility challenges and other issues related to your cycles, pregnancy, periods and/or anxiety.  I treat women with abdominal and womb massage techniques known as Sobada (formally the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage) and reflexology. I’m also an Advanced EFT Tapping practitioner and I work with women in particular issues around anxiety, depression, stress levels.  I teach Fertility Awareness to help women better know their bodies and improve their chances of conceiving or prevent pregnancy naturally.      I live in Modi’in, Israel and that’s where I spend my days helping women during their fertile years, pregnancy, menopause and other hormonal conditions. Bodywork sessions (massage and reflexology take place in my clinic in Modi’in but EFT Tapping sessions and Fertility Awareness education can take place online or in person). Send me a WhatsApp message FollowFollow Testimonials I came to Annette about half a year ago in the middle of a terrible endometriosis attack with extreme pains that lasted for several days. Even at the end of the first treatment I felt a reduction in pain. For several years I have tried various types of alternative treatments and never experienced anything that helped like the treatment from Annette.  Since then I have been going to Annette once every week or so. After many years of taking the contraceptive pill continuously because of endometriosis I stopped the pill in order to get pregnant. I was terrified the pains would get worse once I stopped the pill. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have any painful endometriosis attacks  when I stopped the pill. I had also made changes to my diet with the help of a dietician who specialises in endometriosis. The month after I stopped the pill I got pregnant naturally. Annette is sensitive, professional, pleasant and very exact in her treatment. I am so happy I came to see her. I warmly recommend her to anyone with endometriosis, it was really life-changing for me.  Rinat, Modi’in I came for treatment after being diagnosed with adenomyosis. I was suffering from pain all the time and I was so discouraged. The treatment allowed me to express myself, my difficult feeling and at the same time feel much better physically.  Annette, thank you so much for the support,...
Teenagers

Teenagers

Teenagers Are you a teenager suffering with painful periods or other period related symptoms? Do you frequently miss school and other activities because of your period? Have you ever vomited because of your period? Are your periods so heavy you bleed through to your clothing?      Are your periods so irregular you never know when to expect them? Maybe your periods has been painful right from the beginning or the pain has gradually gotten worse over time. Either way, I want to give you hope that the situation can be improved.    You might be thinking that having a period sucks.  I hear you.  By far the main reason teenagers find me is because of period pain. I want to help as many women and girls as possible have pain-free periods.   Partly because I know it’s possible to have regular, pain-free periods at every age. But also because of your long term fertility and health.  You may not want to get pregnant now but at some stage you probably will and what you do now can affect your fertility when that time comes. What causes painful periods?  Ineffective contractions When your uterus is not in the ideal position it may not be receiving enough blood and oxygen flow, the contractions your uterus makes during your period to release the blood are less effective which makes your uterus try harder by contracting even more, usually causing pain.  When the contractions are ineffective, it can take longer for your uterus to empty and for your period to end. You might also have staining before and after your period.  If you’re seeing a lot of very dark red, brown and black blood it’s most likely old blood from a previous cycle that wasn’t released. This old blood can show up as staining before or after your actual period.  Old blood left over from previous cycles If your uterus doesn’t succeed in successfully letting go of the previous cycle’s uterine lining (endometrium) the pain can worsen with time as your uterus tries and fails to release the accumulated blood.  How does womb massage help reduce period pain?  I use a combination of Sobada, abdominal massage (sometimes referred to as uterine massage or womb massage) and reflexology to help you enjoy pain-free periods.  Sobada abdominal massage is a pleasant and relaxing massage on the abdomen and back that focuses on improving blood flow to your uterus and ovaries and encouraging your uterus into the best possible position in your pelvis.  The treatment is very relaxing and improves both your breathing and digestion in addition to your monthly cycle. In turn, this improves your chances of enjoying a pain-free cycle.  Frequently asked questions How long does it take to see results? Usually, the younger you are the faster you will respond. For many, their very next period is already less painful and it keeps getting better each time. For some, it may take another couple of cycles to see a big improvement.  In our first treatment together, I teach you a short (5-10 minute) self-care massage you can use at home to complement my treatment. If you are consistent about performing this self care massage at home, you will also see faster results.  In addition, I have some herbal formulas that are helpful plus some other lifestyle changes and remedies for you to use at home. I’m embarrassed to talk about my periods. Firstly, I totally get it. Because I talk about periods and other bodily functions all day long I feel comfortable talking about it and usually that helps you feel more comfortable talking about it, too.  However, there’s no pressure. You can share as much or as little as you like. I’ve never had a massage before. What exactly does it involve? After our initial chat, I’ll leave the room while you get ready for the massage part of the treatment.  Some of my clients choose to remove their clothing, leaving on their underpants and bra and lie under the sheet. I cover your chest with a small towel and only expose your stomach when I am working on it. During the first treatment, at every stage I explain what I’m doing and ask for your permission.  Some clients don’t want to remove their clothing and that’s fine. If you wear loose clothing you can lift up your shirt and push your pants or skirt down a bit to give me access to your belly.  I want you to feel relaxed and comfortable. The more comfortable you feel during the treatment, the more effective it will be. I encourage you to ask for what you need during the treatment in order to feel comfortable. Can my mother stay during the treatment? Sure. Many teenagers choose to have their mother stay either during the entire treatment or during the chat we have at the beginning. It’s your choice. I’m very happy for your mother to stay during the treatment if that is what you want.  Irregular periods, heavy bleeding, painful ovulation and digestive issues Although the main reason most teenagers...
Ovulation pain

Ovulation pain

Ovulation pain Not all women feel ovulation so don’t worry if you don’t. Many women who feel ovulation pain are happy because it reassures them that everything is normal. However some women feel ovulation and for a minority it is extremely painful. (As a side note: ovulation pain doesn’t necessarily occur on the day of ovulation itself. You may feel ovulation pain before or after you actually ovulate.) However, if you’re one of those women  who do experience severe pain during ovulation, you’ll know that it can easily interfere with daily activity and even get so bad you find yourself reaching for painkillers. What is ovulation pain?  Ovulation pain is pain in your abdomen during ovulation. Sometimes the pain will be on one side regularly, sometimes the pain will be every month on the other side, and sometimes the pain will be in the middle of the abdomen and radiate lower. It is important to know that there may be a medical reason for these pains, so see a gynaecologist to rule out any medical problem. What causes ovulation pain? Your ovary is being squashed: However, often the problem is simple: the uterus is not in the ideal position so blood is not flowing easily to the area. Imagine your uterus being pushed over towards your right ovary instead of sitting nicely in the center of your pelvis. Your ovary feels cramped and squashed and when it increases in size just before ovulation the pain can get really bad.  Retroverted or anteverted uterus: This problem will be even more common in women with a “retroverted uterus” or “anteverted uterus” because these two conditions may put additional stress on the rest of the pelvic organs. Stress in the area can cause unbearable pain during ovulation when more blood is being pumped  to the area to cope with the demands of ovulation.  Scar tissue or pelvic adhesions: is another cause of pain around the time of ovulation and ovulation pain is especially common in women suffering with endometriosis. How can you relieve ovulation pain? Massage using the Sobada method improves the position of the uterus and the blood flow to the area, thus relieving the pain. The massage over your stomach, hips and back is simple, pleasant and not painful, and can help you connect to your body and your femininity.  The Sobada method is a technique based on techniques from the ancient Mayan tribe from Belize as taught by Rosita Arvigo. The techniques help relax the muscles and strengthen the ligaments supporting the uterus. Regardless of the cause, I have found that Sobada treatment is effective in reducing and often eliminating ovulation pain entirely and many women find that period pain and other discomfort they used to suffer from is also improved as a side benefit.  The Sobada treatment improves the position of the uterus and the blood flow to the area, thus relieving the pain. Amenorrhea

Amenorrhea

Amenorrhea There are two different types of amenorrhea:  Primary amenorrhea: you are 16+ years old and you’ve never had a period Secondary amenorrhea: you were getting your period but it’s stopped for at least three months. What might be causing secondary amenorrhea:  These three main causes of amenorrhea are natural and connected to the stage of life you are in:    Pregnancy  Breastfeeding Menopause If it’s not one of the three above reasons, your lack of periods can be caused by:  Stress Change in diet Change in exercise habits Hormonal imbalance  Thyroid problems – hypothyroidism Being very overweight Being very underweight  Family history of amenorrhea Family history of early menopause Some medications and medical treatments like chemotherapy  Ovarian tumours Surgical removal of ovaries and or uterus High FSH levels Prolactamina PCOS – Polycystic ovarian syndrome Hypothalamic amenorrhea How does womb massage help get your period back? I use a combination of Sobada, abdominal massage (sometimes referred to as uterine massage or womb massage) and reflexology to encourage your cycle to return. Together we will do some detective work to find out if there are underlying hormonal conditions or lifestyle related actions that are preventing your period.  I also use herbs alongside the treatment to balance your hormones and help get your cycle back.  In our first treatment together, I teach you a short (5-10 minute) self-care massage you can use at home to complement my treatment. Heavy bleeding

Heavy bleeding

Heavy bleeding How do you know if your period is too heavy?  You need to change your pad or tampon after an hour You frequently bleed through your pad onto your clothing You’re scared to leave the house on heavy flow days for fear of bleeding onto your clothing You lose more than 80ml each period Heavy bleeding can be very inconvenient and if it continues can lead to fatigue and anaemia. What causes heavy bleeding?  Polyps Ovarian cysts Fibroids low iron IUD especially the non-hormonal IUD Peri-menopause Hormonal imbalance However, a more traditional approach is that heavy bleeding is more likely when the uterus is ”weak” and can’t control the blood flow like it should. Weak uterus Okay, so I know the concept of a “weak uterus” may be new to you so let’s look at this in more depth. Every organ in your body requires nutrients, oxygen, etc to do its job AND the ability to get rid of waste products. Same goes for your uterus.  Uterine position If your uterus is not in the ideal position in your pelvis, it’s quite likely it is also blocking some of the blood flow to and from the uterus and the ovaries. That means vital nutrients including hormones and oxygen may not be able to get to where they need to go and waste products can build up causing congestion, bloating, discomfort and pain.  Building the lining Each month your uterus’s job is to build up a lining to welcome a potential pregnancy. If that pregnancy doesn’t occur, it needs to respond to changing hormones and release the lining so it can rebuild a fresh one next month. Building the lining and releasing it at the right time reflects a strong and healthy uterus.  Improving the flow A weak uterus is simply one that can’t do its job of building and releasing the lining well. When we help reposition the uterus in your pelvis and improve the flow of nutrients, hormones and oxygen via the blood and improve the removal of waste products, it’s likely that the uterus will be stronger and healthier and more able to manage the blood flow and the amount of blood you lose each month. Normal blood flow That means your blood flow will be a normal amount (between 30 – 80ml) and your period will start and end without days and days of staining before or after. You’ll feel more confident that you can manage your period and you can leave the house without a fear of leaking onto your clothing. Holistic treatment to reduce heavy blood flow I treat women with heavy blood flow using a combination of Sobada, abdominal and pelvic massage) and reflexology.  Sobada abdominal massage is a pleasant and relaxing massage on the abdomen and back that focuses on improving blood flow to your uterus and ovaries and encouraging your uterus into the best possible position in your pelvis. As a result, your uterus is more likely to be able to manage the blood flow and the amount of blood you lose each month is reduced.  Sobada is often nicknamed womb massage because of it’s profound effect on your womb and entire reproductive system. The treatment is very relaxing and improves both your breathing and digestion in addition to your monthly cycle.  In addition, I have herbal formulas that also support this process.  Many of my clients report that their period has significantly improved after Sobada womb massage treatment and their periods are lighter and much more manageable and other women report that their period has become completely pain free!  In our first treatment together, I teach you a short (5-10 minute) self-care massage you can use at home to complement my treatment. If you are consistent about performing this self care massage at home, you will also see faster results. Heavy bleeding during peri-menopause Heavy bleeding during peri-menopause, the final years before your cycle stops is quite common and is caused by the fluctuations of your hormones at this time. Although the hormonal fluctuation is part of the normal process of transitioning from monthly periods to menopause when your cycle has ended, I can still support you during this time to make the transition easier.
